& CHURCH SCRIPTURE &
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” (IITim2:2-4).
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
Every once in a while I am asked why the name Good Soldier was chosen for our ministry. The short answer, of course, is that God told me to name it that. The reference came from the above mentioned scripture. It is not so much what is written but why it was written that made it pivotal to our beginning.
Paul the elder Apostle was writing to his son in the Gospel, the young pastor Timothy. Virtually all theologians agree that this is Paul’s last writing. He knows that the end of his time on this planet is at hand and he is spending his last moments encouraging the saints and setting the church in order for it to be the greatest organization this world has ever known.
Paul was not concerned about his own fate. He wrote his own epitaph in chapter four of this beautiful book: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day…” (2Tim4:7-8a) Paul, while certainly not wanting to perish, was looking past his own situation to ensure that the church would continue and become all she is destined to be. He understood that his soul was in good hands.
That is what the church is still called for today. All of us in the Body of Christ must realize that our time on this planet is short and Jesus is soon to return. We need to spend our time focused on the needs of others rather than on our own situations.
That is why Good Soldier Church and Outreach Ministries has been formed. It is our job to encourage the saints by utilizing our gifts for the perfection of the church. We are strengthened by strengthening others. Yes, at times we must endure hardness. This walk is not always easy; but it is the only walk we have.
It’s time to step up and step out. Let us be the people of God we are supposed to be.
Continuing in God’s Purpose—Fulfilling Our Destiny
As we embark on our third year as a church, it is so very important not only to reflect on from where God has brought us, but also where God is taking us. We must keep the vision in focus, more determined than ever to stay in God’s purpose.
The Lord has called Good Soldier Church and Outreach Ministries to win souls for God’s Kingdom, and to help those who are saved to be perfected. Everything we do is to that end.
Encouraged by the past successes of bringing Evangelist Mario Murillo to Columbus, OH; our first Annual Women’s Conference; the spiritual growth in the membership body through various means including our membership services; the development and success of our v-teams (visitation teams); and the quarterly women’s outreach services at the YWCA; compels and strengthens us to move further into the vision.
The vision for the future includes beginning the accredited School of Ministry; expanding the outreach to other populations; increasing membership development opportunities; beginning the Restoration Program for individuals battling addiction; and more.
This is truly a remarkable time to be a member of the Body of Christ. We should all be keenly aware of this moment in our destiny. And be determined to walk in God’s blessings so that we may all fulfill the vision that God has entrusted unto us. I encourage you to stay focused, steadfast, purposeful, and strong in Jesus. God Bless You.
Yours because of Calvary,
David E. Johnson, MBA, Pastor
